Abstract

|
As the previous program-oriented survey of MCH and nutrition identified a need for development of nutrition teaching materials for field health workers, 80 nutrition teaching¢¥ flipcharts and copies; edited as a set of two booklets pertaining to 1) teaching simple basic nutrition, and maternal and child nutrition; and 2) nutritional care for illness; were developed between October of 1983 and May of 1984.
In order to evaluate their value for community use, a pretest was carried out through two channels: training for a total of 133 residents of Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, with the cooperation of the local primary health care center and Dong office; and in-service training for a total of 36 local health workers, conducted at the National Institute of Health.
According to comparison of the results of written tests before and after training, on objective and narrative questions, a significant difference (p<0.001) was obtained. The study found the material adequate and useful for field use. The authors recommend that the material be revised according to the results of the pretest, for better material development and its effective use in the primary health care program.
